An official word from the church session

The Hiring of Principal Larry Ahl

Dear CCS Families,

We are pleased to announce that effective August 1, 2007 Mr. Larry Ahl will be joining Covenant Christian School as Principal.  Mr. Ahl comes to us with 31 years prior experience as Principal at four different private Christian schools.  Most recently he spent 14 years at Mission Hills Community Church and School in Rancho Santa Margarita where he served as Principal/Chief Operating Officer and Associate Pastor.  Mission Hills Christian School served over 400 K-8th grade students and was fully accredited by both WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International).

Mr. Ahl has a heart for Christian education and feels it is his calling to build and/or help grow Christian schools. He has demonstrated this throughout most of his career dating back to 1975 when he founded Colonial Bible Church in Tustin, and Colonial Bible Church School in 1977 where he served as Principal for Pre-school, Elementary, Junior High and High School.

Principal Ahl received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Vanguard University, Costa Mesa, in 1972, and his Master of Arts Degree in Education from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2000.  Mr. Ahl came highly recommended and brings a background and education that fits well with the challenges we have ahead of us.  We feel that God has led us to find him, and him to find Covenant Christian School.

Mr. Ahl and his wife live in Mission Viejo and have three children – one married, one in college and one who will be entering college in the fall.  Please join us in welcoming Principal Ahl to Covenant Christian School!  We are looking forward to a long and productive relationship that will bring glory to our Lord and Savior.

Special thanks to Larry Holcombe

...who held down the fort during the transitional period.

We were truly blessed to have Mr. Larry Holcombe, who is an established member of our church, be the interim principal. Mr. Holcombe was well qualified for this position, bringing 36 years of experience in the publical school system. In fact, 29 of those 36 years were as a principal.

During this transition, he brought a steadying influence and a gentleman's approach that instills confidence within the staff and teachers and security to the children. He brought a caring and personable style and the kids seemed to run to him. We were truly blessed to have him. Thank you, Larry.
