The Joint Board Meeting: every 4th Tuesday
This is a monthly meeting for the three ordained boards of our church:  Elders, deacons, and deaconesses

Meeting together: 
            -every fourth Tuesday of the month
            -location:  St. Andrew’s Hall
            -time:  7:00 – 7:30
            * for inter-board networking and training (see “leadership training”)

Meeting separately:  after the Joint Board Mtg., each board meets separately
            Locations:      Elders – main office
                                    Deacons – St. Andrews
                                    Deaconesses – Heritage Lounge

1.  Joint Board Training:  For Elders, Deacons, and Deaconesses
            Meeting together:

Curriculum Overview:


On the official doctrine of the church:  Pastor Stan Van Den Berg

As the teaching pastor, Pastor Stan takes the leaders through a 3 year study     on the Westminster Confession of Faith.  A copy of the Confession is         provided.  Contact Pastor Stan for more information: pastorstan@covp.org
                       

On the governmental structure of the church:  Pastor Tae Shin 
As pastor of leadership development, Pastor Tae takes the leaders through a one year study on how God has designed the government of the church.      This study is repeated each year as new leaders are ordained.  A training

2.  Elders Training:  For active AND inactive elders
            Meeting: every second Monday of the month
            Location:  Heritage Lounge
            Time:  7:00 – 9:00
            Teacher:  Pastor Tae Shin

Curriculum Overview:  a three year program
(and then repeated)
This training programs covers all areas of the elder as a person, his work, and the governmental functions of the church.  The following are the main topics covered in three years:

The Person:  his character, his motive, his abilities, his gifts, his calling
Elder Orientation:  leading worship, serving communion, administration
Basic Theology: Creeds and Confessions, reformed faith, Calvinism
Basic Ecclesiology (study of the church): Marks of the Church, its purpose, sacraments
Church Government:  the Presbyterian form, biblical authority,
* basic principles here are covered in the Joint Board training curriculum
  on governmental structure
Theology of Eldership:  male leadership, plurality of elders
Defining positions:  the teaching and ruling elder
The Appointment of Elders
The Examination of Elders
The Task:  working as a team, sharing the work, dividing the work
…and so much more
                       
Special Assignments:  applying biblical principles to the actual situation of our
                                     church.  Reading assignment and special homework is
                                     assigned on a regular basis.
