Ministry INSIDE the church

Mercy Ministry is the “in-house” counter-part to the Community Outreach Ministy of our church. Whereas Community Outreach reaches out to those outside our church, Mercy Ministry extends a hand of mercy to those inside our church.

Actually, Mercy Ministry is an “umbrella” organization under which many focused ministries of mercy exist. It gathers together and oversees the following ministries: (in alphabetical order)

Car Pool: Not yet formalized but this mercy ministry continues under the loving care and concern of individuals reaching out to their friends and family. Those with skills of coordination and management are invited to participate.

Care Team: to provide general compassion and care to those who need general support. This ministry distinguishes itself from the others in that it provides general support as opposed to dramatic and emergency level support that involves hospitalization and other intense circumstances. The vision here is that our daily lives have enough general challenges that should cause us to reach out to each other in prayer and support. Coordinator: Beverly Price. or call the church office, 714-998-6650, or email the prayer chain at covenantprayers@hotmail.com

Counseling: Counseling is the general ministry of all believers who are called to help each other grow in the Lord. But in the case of special needs, pastors and elders are available upon request. Contact the church office, 714-998-6650.

Grief Share: A very special gathering, this mercy ministry reaches out to those who have lost a loved one. Teaching, counsel, prayer, and sympathy are shared in this genuine setting where participants go on a journey into a new chapter of life. This journey involves healing, restoration and renewal of vision and purpose. Contact the church office, 714-998-6650. Counselor: Marsha Hodges.

Helping Hands: This is a “hands on” ministry led by the ordained deacons of our church. It is a specialized help to those inside our church and to be distinguished from the Community Outreach ministry [create link to Community Outreach]. Members and regular attenders of our church can request help….literally….from steps that need repair to ceiling fans that won’t cooperate. Contact the church office, 714-998-6650. Coordinator of Member Assistance: George Judd.

Prayer Chain:
is a phone and email network that offers continuous prayers, spiritually linking the congregation together. This network is not to be relegated to an email chain since there are many that do not use email but serve as prayer partners. Contact the church office, 714-998-6650, or email the prayer chain at covenantprayers@hotmail.com. Prayer Chain facilitators: Dorothy Sidfrid (coordinator), Betty Price, Nancy Fritts, Zella Reynolds, Pat Symmes.

Prayer Groups: Prayer is an indispensable part of mercy ministry. Prayer flows in many directions and is connected to various mercy ministries listed here. Prayer cards can initiate the process during Sunday worship. These cards are prayed over during the worship and then given to the Tuesday Morning Prayer Group. These ladies pray over these cards as well as other prayers. These cards then travel to Pastor Stan Van Den Berg’s desk where he, as the lead shepherd, prays for each of them. Cards that request specific things lead to other ministries such as visitation and general care. Prayer requests can also be delivered by telephone and email. Contact the church office, 714-998-6650, or email the prayer chain at covenantprayers@hotmail.com

Special Support Teams: In special and dramatic circumstance, a more intense effort of mercy will be required. This may be expressed in special (temporary) teams mobilized for prayer and support. This ministry is based on sympathy, care and spiritual discernment. Coordinator: Kaarina Johnston.

Visitation: visitation is a versatile ministry that involves many people, too many to mention here. It should also be recognized that visitation occurs outside the formal borders of this focused ministry. But specific to this ministry, there is the daily work of visiting the shut-in, those who are hurting, those in hospitals and other care facilities. Pastor Stan Van Den Berg, senior pastor, actively oversees this endeavor along with appointed elders.
